Tell us about your Treatment Experiences

Which Tinnitus Treatments Have You Tried?

We had a phenomenal response to our request for your experiences of tinnitus. We would now like to know about your experience of treatments for tinnitus. We believe that it will benefit the tinnitus community if they could find out more about the different treatments people have tried and the effectiveness of each treatment.

Special Research Appeal Launched this Week

This week Action for Tinnitus Research is launching an appeal to raise funds to find a cure for tinnitus in memory of the charity's founder Peter Dyer, who died a year ago. The charity has set an appeal target of £100,000. This will pay for a comprehensive drug testing trial at Leicester that will focus on testing new drugs that show promise in treating tinnitus. Please support our appeal.

Latest Research News from Leicester

Earlier we reported on a promising new drug that could treat tinnitus. Researchers at the University of Leicester and Leicester Royal Infirmary provided us with an update of the research evidence on how effective drugs such as Campral could be in treating tinnitus.

Why We Need to Test New Drugs

Most of the drugs we are interested in testing have been tested for other conditions, but have not been tested on a satisfactory number of tinnitus sufferers. Every new drug needs to undergo rigorous testing to make sure that people that take the drug will not suffer any detrimental side effects.

Help us Reach the Regional Media

Action for Tinnitus Research would like your help to raise awareness through the regional media of ATR's role in funding research, and to reach to out to fellow sufferers with a message of hope.

In the News:

"Ear Buds" versus Headphones - The American Tinnitus Association reported that the US are debating whether "ear buds" are more damaging than headphones. Listening to loud music can cause hearing loss! But, what about our choices in earpieces? Ear buds are small speakers that fit directly into the ear, leaving less distance for noise to travel and do damage. Some argue that the use of ear buds carry a higher risk of damage, while others say it is about the volume of the music itself.

It costs tens of thousands of pounds - if not hundreds of thousands - to run a dedicated research programme. Our aim is to make every penny you donate go further. We do this - by spending more on focussed research programmes and less on admin.

Your donation is vitally important. It will help us support valuable research projects - and bring the possibility of a cure closer.
