Breakthrough gene discovery

Belgian scientists have made a breakthrough discovery about a gene - known as 'TGBF1' that appears to contribute to the development of otosclerosis. Otosclerosis is known to be one of the commonest causes of moderate deafness in adults, but is also associated with tinnitus in many people who suffer form otosclerosis.

Placebos and tinnitus treatment>>

In the light of the tinnitus research trials taking place this year, ATR researchers are very interested in the recent study undertaken at the University of Hamburg by Professor Christian Büchel into the beneficial effects of placebo in patients not actually receiving active treatment. This study reinforces the view that is is vitally important to include a 'control' group in all clinical trials.
